How to Combat Frizz

For the wavy and curly community, we all know the struggle of perfecting our wash day, hair day, or whatever you call it. It has to be perfect, but sometimes it isn’t. Regardless of the order you do the routine, there will always be frizz.

Fortunately, I have some tips to help combat the issue, even if they're a little different. It’s the thought that counts.

Wash Your Hair Less:

This might be a problem for some, especially the ones who don’t realize their hair was never straight in the first place. Waves, curls, and kinks are never to be washed every day or most days out of the week.

Unless you have had a lot of product buildup over the past few days, keep the washing to a maximum once a week. You don’t want to strip the natural oils from your hair, which can cause another underlying issue of dryness. Once a week is all your waves, curls, or kinks need, I promise.

Switch to a diffuser:

Most of us have had our fair share of traditional blow dryers because that’s what our parents, aunts, and uncles used instead of the actual thing.

A diffuser attachment is used to cover every inch of that section of hair that you are diffusing, while also keeping your hair safe from dangerous heat. Apply your original products: cream, mousse, and/or gel. Use the diffuser to dry and keep the curls, waves, or kinks intact.

Satin Pillowcases:

Last year, I discovered the “trendy” satin pillowcases, and guess what? Worth every penny. Even a silk bonnet can be used as well.

These products are designed for your hair to be in a comfortable state without having to worry about a lot of hair damage, breakage, or dryness from the usual bonnets and pillowcases. It helps combat frizz as well, leaving your hair happy.

Detangle while wet:

This should be common sense by now, but if it’s not, that’s okay. Everyone is on different journeys and doesn’t know information like the majority.

Using a thick and moisturizing conditioner paired with a detangling comb or brush, you want to brush under lukewarm water (make sure it’s drenched), and it's easy to slip the brush into your hair.

There should be no tangles! Just a smooth raking of the hair.
