The Correct Way to Apply Skincare

Many people mistake the "correct" way with the most complicated routine known to mankind. That’s not the correct way; it’s the worst way unless it’s what helps you. The correct way to apply is a simple way that could be much more effective in the long run. Don’t let anyone tell you what you need to add to your routine if you’ve already perfected your own. Whatever works for them may not work for you. Plus, the routine you have depends on the time of day.

Morning Routine:

Cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and SPF are the only things needed in the morning.

It may not sound like it, but it’s best to layer simply during the day.

You don’t want to dry out your skin and be left uncomfortable by the application of so many products.

Evening Routine:

Evening Routines are known to be a bit longer than the morning routine. They usually have a oil cleanser or cleansing balm and retinol/acne treatments.

An oil-based cleanser for when it’s time to remove makeup and/or sunscreen. It’s solid at first touch, but when you rub the product in between your fingertips, it becomes an oil! Then, a water-based cleanser can help wash away whatever remains...

Toner helps wipe off anything that didn’t come up with double cleansing.

Because of the extra hydration and if you have any blemishes, serums like Niacinamide and Hylauronic Acid can be beneficial at night!

Retinol is a good investment and helps with any blemishes, prevents acne from appearing, and helps with your skin barrier. Use in moderation if you’re not familiar with the product just yet.

Making sure the moisturizer is at least comedogenic so you won’t clog any pores is important.

More isn’t always better, which makes your pockets and skin happy. If long routines are what personally helps your skin stay healthy, then keep it that way, as long as it works for you. Keeping a simple routine keeps you from spending over $150 on things you don’t really need.
